Replica Western Guns - Are You a Collector?   no comments

Posted at 2:23 pm in Uncategorized

Western gun replicas are also a very interesting category of collectibles in the movie industry. These are the guns which were made based on the props of certain movies that used guns. Because of this, this particular class of movie memorabilia is attractive mostly to fans of old western films or other films that have settings that involve cowboys and lots of shooting.

Most of what you will find when browsing for replica western guns is those of old western revolvers that were used during the times of the Wild West. These were the guns that were used by sheriffs and law breakers alike. During the old civil war, most fighters had a pistol with them which they generally used in battle, aside from the Civil war swords that they use for close combat. Of course, to most people these hand guns and revolvers might look all the same, but in the eyes of an avid collector, each model is unique. This is because the guns which these replicas are made of are based on certain types of individuals known either in movies or real life, and they usually had custom guns that people who knew them were known for.

That’s why there are lots of western gun replicas such as the Billy the Kid Pistol Set, which is based on the personalized pistol of the famous Billy the Kid. There is also the Frank and Jesse James Boxed Set, made after the guns used by the infamous Frank and Jesse James of the old Wild West.

What’s more is that these replicas don’t just come in a single version. You can even get them in varied types of sets. There are replica guns which come in boxes or are framed. You can even get them with cool accessories like Western holsters and gun belts or other things that will make your cowboy or western theme of the replica complete. Most of these replica guns even come with a certificate of authenticity to prove that they were made based on the actual guns themselves.

No fan of the Wild West and western type movies should be without these western gun replicas, which are a fine addition to anybody’s movie memorabilia collection.

Collectible Medieval Armors   no comments

Posted at 4:59 pm in Uncategorized

There are lots of collectibles that a medieval fan can consider whenever building up his collection. Whether he or she is a historian who focuses on the medieval times or is a fan of movies set on medieval contexts, there are so many valuable collectibles that can be added to their growing collection. Of course, the more popular category would be the medieval swords, which probably has the most models that people could choose from. However, the medieval times weren’t just about swords – they were about other things as well. During those times, the sporting of medieval helms and armors were of great significance as well.

One such other category that collectors will definitely want to look into is the Medieval Armor category. This is where we can find all the cool looking armor that you can used to watch on movies or see in the museums. In fact, these armors are based on the real thing, so they are either made after those armors that you see in the museum or the actual props used in a movie based in the medieval times.

The medieval armor replicas can actually come in different designs because just like the medieval swords, they also come in different forms and specs. The armor used to protect the body would of course vary for men and women, because of the differing physical makeup of male and female warriors. Then these armors can also vary in terms of material, but the general idea is that they are made to protect the body from harm during war in the medieval times. Some of these armors are plated, made of steel and something even gold for aesthetics.

There are also armor designs that are meant only for royalty or noble classes in the military and collectors will also find these valuable additions to their armor collections as well.

In conclusion, one shouldn’t just look at the medieval swords. Medieval armors are also an interesting set to collect. They will look great to have a full suit of armor displayed in your hallway or some part of your house, so it’s worth checking out.

Practice Swords - Not Only for Collectors   no comments

Posted at 1:29 am in Uncategorized

Practice swords are a class of swords that have a specific practical purpose, and that is to allow the wielder to practice his sword skills. As such, practice swords are not the type that would be made with fancy features or designs – they simply have to look like the conventional swords that people normally use. If the sword were to differ in any aspect such as length of the blade or handle, the practice sword would not serve its purpose.

Some people prefer to make use of wooden replicas of the swords as a practice sword. But sometimes this isn’t such a good idea. It is quite obvious that holding a piece of wood that looks like a katana or any other sword will be different from the real thing. Wood is much lighter than the more durable material that actual blades are made of, for instance. So it’s always better to consider using the more professionally made practice swords.

Of course, the practice sword that you need will also depend on what kind of sword you intend to practice with. If you’re practicing to use the katana then you’re obviously going to need a katana practice sword. One such practice sword would be the Hanwei - Gorin Iaito Katana, a flawless replica of the ordinary katana that stands 27 inches long. Its blade is made with a stainless steel material more durable than any aluminum alloy.

In addition to looking and feeling like the actual sword, it is important to note that practice swords must be safe to use as well. This is because the reason why we’re using practice swords is to prevent committing accidents while learning how to use it. The blade must be blunt and cannot cause actual damage like a real katana would.

But the good news is that it’s not very difficult to find good practice swords like the Hanwei Nami Iaito Wakizashi. They’re made with such precision that it almost feels like you’re holding on to the real thing. Practice swords like these are always ideal for those who are learning how to use the properly.

Masahiro Swords - High Quality at Affordable PRices   no comments

Posted at 12:35 pm in Uncategorized

Want top of the line quality Japanese traditional swords? Then Masahiro should be one of your prime options for getting that sword you want. Masahiro has been working with high quality swords like the Masahiro Tsunami Nin-to, which is made with no less than high quality carbon steel blade and is meant to withstand tedious cutting exercises. Generally, Masahiro uses carbon steel in the forge based in China.

But Masahiro is not exactly what you would call a sword manufacturer. Most of the swords sold from Masahiro are sourced from different forges in China. So Masahiro is more of a re-brander rather than a manufacturer.

Most of the swords made are distributed primarily to the US, specifically to master Cutlery and Sunpoint USA, where the goods are sold over the internet like ebay. But despite this sourcing and the lack of an official website (most of the limited info one can get on Masahiro usually come from websites of sellers), Masahiro continues to attract more customers because of these cost effective products. For instance, most Masahiro katana such as Golden Dragon Katana and the Masahiro Cherry Blossom Katana are among the cheapest on the internet but still maintain top notch quality. In fact, one could say that Masahiro swords are the best manifestation of compromise between affordability and functionality of traditional Japanese swords.

While traditional Japanese swords like the Elite Musashi Katana and the Elite Fuji Katana have been proven to be of great quality under the forge of Masahiro, another thing that can be noted about Masahiro is that the forge is also capable to producing custom Japanese swords to suit the buyer’s taste. This will allow buyers to exercise a little bit of creativity on their own so that they can be sure that they are happy with what they get.

The Japanese traditional swords produced by Masahiro like that of the Uesugi Kenshin Katana are ideal for practical exercises on training with Japanese swords. And since most of them are also happen to be battle ready, these swords can also be used in actual battle, not to mention the fact that they make great decorations when displayed while not being used.

The World of Fantasy Swords   no comments

Posted at 12:32 pm in Uncategorized

Anyone who loves to get caught up in fantasy movies or books should also consider having a fantasy sword collection, if one has not been started already. There are many different replicas of swords from movies, as well as swords that were designed by famous artists to create pieces based on descriptions from books or legends. Not all fantasy swords are made the same and not all have the features of a good collector’s piece so this must be kept in mind before making any purchasing. Although fantasy swords are almost never battle ready and therefore can not be used for fighting, practicing, demonstrating or competing, they are good props to have with you if you are at a reenactment or fantasy movie or book based convention.

Regardless of whether you want fantasy swords that are copies of those seen in famous movies or pieces that were created and designed for a series of fantasy stories, you need to be careful when purchasing items for collections that you want to be valuable one day. Generally speaking, the rarer the sword is the better of an investment it is. All fantasy swords that are replicas or part of a series should be limited editions so that not everyone will be able to obtain one, come with a certificate of authenticity and be made of good materials, such as mirrored or polished stainless steel for the blade, leather or silk for the handle wrapping and non-rusting metals for the decorations, pommel and hilt if applicable. On top of that the company making the fantasy swords should have an official license to do so and if this is not the case then there is little chance of the value increasing.

Fantasy swords do not always include the scabbard, because their main purpose is to be put on display. Some collector’s editions of fantasy swords include a wall plaque so that you can easily hang it up and put it where it is easily seen, but even if a plaque is not included they are easy to purchase. There are also stands and racks that can be purchased to properly hold you collection of fantasy swords.

Check Out the Diversity of Chinese Swords   no comments

Posted at 8:29 pm in Uncategorized

There are many styles of Chinese swords available. Which you choose will depend a great deal upon the reason for buying a sword in the first place. This is because different qualities, materials and styles are used for the various purposes and therefore a display sword, for example, might not be functional whereas a Kung Fu competition sword will be made of the highest quality and most durable materials so that it is not ruined in a fight.

There are many beautiful, ornate Chinese swords that are suitable to be put on display in a home, place of work or training center. An individual piece can look good, but for those that love all kinds of swords then it is a good idea to add several different Chinese swords. This is easy to do because of the sheer diversity of this group, which includes items like butterfly swords, daos, liuye daos, jians and the saber dadao.

Not only do Chinese swords include military or war weapons, but also a wide ranging set of swords that are used in the traditional martial arts that have been practiced for centuries already. For example, the nandao is a used in modern day wushu exercises, hook swords and forms or the kwandao which is used in the shaolin kung fu disciplines.

Many martial artists can make use of Chinese swords, even if the discipline they compete or train in is from a different country or region. However, people that are well versed in the use of swords should also invest in a few of the varieties of Chinese ones, because they can be very different in their handling.

One unique feature of Chinese swords is that many styles require that the user have one sword in each hand. These dual swords are the ultimate for everyone who practices sword fighting because it requires many years of training, coordination, skill and flexibility in order to become good at it. The blade lengths also vary from short to very long and the handle may be for one or two handed usage. Since there are many styles, there is also something that can be found for role playing reenactments.

Here are some examples of high quality Chinese swords that you could add to your collection:

The Chinese war sword: This is an amazing replica of the type of sword that were used back in the middle ages of Japan. Made by Cold steel, i am sure you will immediately see the power of this sword as soon as you see it. No wonder they call it the war sword.

Butterfly swords: This type of sword is very particular. These swords comes in pairs and are cleverly nested together so they appear to be just one. A very dangerous weapon indeed!

How to Collect Swords   no comments

Posted at 1:00 pm in Uncategorized

Collecting swords is a hobby that thousands of people practice worldwide. Some do it because they are passionate about a certain period in history others because they have some sort of interest in the swords used in various movies. Some only collect swords that gain value overtime.

Below are a few guidelines to help you start your own sword collection.

  1. For those new to sword collecting, the choice is up to you. You can collect sword from a particular time period or you can just collect sword you like, this is a personal choice for each collector.
  2. Find the perfect place to display your swords, keep in mind that this type of collection can take a lot of room. Personally I recommend using an entire room for your collection. But again the choice is yours.
  3. Find the places where you want to buy your swords… Personaly I like to buy my swords online from a reputable e-commerce store…They often have amazing prices and many also have a guarantee. Other places that can be considered are: Auction, Other Collectors, weapon show’s etc…
  4. Before buying a sword try to inspect it before if you can…This is especially true if you are to buy a real antique sword. The sword will need to be inspected before spending your hard earned money.

Specials Tips:

  1. Make sure your sword are hanged properly on the wall. You don’t want them to be damaged with poor hanging hooks.
  2. Take your time… Sword collecting is a matter of years, finding the right one can often take time.
  3. Do not clean your sword unless you are aware of the techniques.
  4. Buying book on sword collecting is advised, especially if your intention is to buy real antique swords.
  5. Do you research properly before buying. Some swords have licensed resellers while others are just cheap imitations…This is especially true for movie swords.

But most the most important aspect of all is: Have fun…this is meant to be something you enjoy :)

Looking for Real Ninja Swords?   no comments

Posted at 12:53 pm in Uncategorized

According to Japanese history a real ninja was a fearsome warrior trained in multiple varieties of unorthodox arts of war including martial arts. Most people think that ninja’s were mostly assassins but this is far from the truth.

Ninja were skilled assassins but they were also trained in the art of sabotage, espionage and even scouting. They were very effective at destabilizing the enemy’s troops by bringing social chaos in enemy territory.

Ninja weapons are more diversified than samurai’s, of course they were carrying katana’s (although they were slightly different) but they were also using a variety of weapons and tricks even gun powder. Here are some of the weapons used by ninja’s:

  • Ninjato Katana
  • Smoke bombs
  • Firecracker (diversion and escape)
  • Metsubushi (small bombs)
  • Shuriken
  • and more

According to many beliefs, the most common ninja weapon still remains the ninjato… some believe it was mostly used as a utilitarian tool rather than an actual weapon, but that remains speculation even to this day…

ninjato

Ninjato were smaller than a katana but larger than a wakizashi.

Even to this day the true origin of the ninja does remain unknown and most of the knowledge we have about them including their weapons remains pure speculation.
