According to Japanese history a real ninja was a fearsome warrior trained in multiple varieties of unorthodox arts of war including martial arts. Most people think that ninja’s were mostly assassins but this is far from the truth.
Ninja were skilled assassins but they were also trained in the art of sabotage, espionage and even scouting. They were very effective at destabilizing the enemy’s troops by bringing social chaos in enemy territory.
Ninja weapons are more diversified than samurai’s, of course they were carrying katana’s (although they were slightly different) but they were also using a variety of weapons and tricks even gun powder. Here are some of the weapons used by ninja’s:
- Ninjato Katana
- Smoke bombs
- Firecracker (diversion and escape)
- Metsubushi (small bombs)
- Shuriken
- and more
According to many beliefs, the most common ninja weapon still remains the ninjato… some believe it was mostly used as a utilitarian tool rather than an actual weapon, but that remains speculation even to this day…
Ninjato were smaller than a katana but larger than a wakizashi.
Even to this day the true origin of the ninja does remain unknown and most of the knowledge we have about them including their weapons remains pure speculation.
